K-Hub

The ISB K-Hub is a business accelerator that supports the start-up and growth of technology and technology-leveraging ventures. It is supported by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The ISB K-Hub is primarily a semi-virtual facility that offers business guidance for idea-stage entrepreneurs and growth-stage ventures, by creating a well-coordinated access to ecosystem that leverages the knowledge and skills of the faculty, students, alumni and staff of the WCED, as well as the vast physical and knowledge resources at its disposal. The ISB K-Hub provides guidance through the turbulent process of enterprise-creation and growth, with a support system comprising of key service providers such as research centres, project consultants, business development service providers, and business mentors.

The ISB KHub Entrepreneurship Development Initiative (EDI) educates and assists young entrepreneurs in the area of business planning, and promotes entrepreneurship as a valid career option. It supports aspiring entrepreneurs who have business ideas and the right attitude, with financial support, mentoring and business resources to create and sustain their own successful business.  ISB KHub-EDI provides an environment for experimentation, allows for failures as well as encourages people to take risks for what they believe in. It creates a platform that facilitates promotion of pervasive entrepreneurship with sustainable socioeconomic value creation, at a scale that matches the needs of the Indian economy.

The ISB Knowledge K-Hub Winners Club promotes the growth of technology/technology-leveraged ventures that have the potential to be winners in the national/global arena. The key to the success of such growth-stage entrepreneurial ventures is the presence of relevant managerial capabilities to steer them through the turbulent start-up and growth phases. The ISB K-Hub Winners’ Club positions such ventures on the path to success by providing mentoring support and access to a range of services crucial to the sustenance and growth of these ventures. So far, we have supported 100+ start-ups, 19 EDIs and 31 growth-stage ventures.

Entrepreneurship development, with appropriate scale, scope and relevance, can address both economic development and sustainable inclusive growth. The current form of ISB K-Hub has limitations on scalability.

K-Hub Phase II at ISB will follow a hybrid incubation model, where the K-Hub will incubate sector-specific ventures. These sectors range from Technology, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Textile to Agro-processing and other such sectors, which can contribute to the growth of AP as a state and in general, empower entrepreneurs in these sectors across the nation.

To address mega challenges of:

  • Large-scale employment
  • Large-scale employability
  • Growth of SMEs
  • Leveraging emerging technologies
  • Leveraging financial institutions &  new models

ISB K-Hub phase II will

  • widen the incubation horizon beyond the individual entrepreneurs and will also include scaling-up in industrial parks, special economic zones and clusters.
  • Coordinate across associations and networks, and beyond cities and top educational institutions.
  • Emphasise the financial and commercialisation aspects of incubation.
  • Create forums for partnerships with and mentoring by academic & financial institutions.
Explore ways to monetize aspects of the knowledge industry (including intellectual property in the form of licenses, etc, as assets) with a view to better the finance for such sectors.
